Calculate engineering strain from a change in length (ε = ΔL/L₀), strain from stress with Young's modulus, and lateral strain with Poisson's ratio.

ε = ΔL / L₀
Positive strain is stretching, negative is shortening.

Working
Choose engineering strain, Hooke's law, or Poisson's ratio and which quantity to solve for; the form asks only for the others.
Each input has its own unit picker (kΩ, µF, mH, MPa, GPa, mm, cP and more), so there's nothing to convert first.
You get the result in your chosen unit and every other unit, plus the rearranged equation with your numbers in SI units.
The change in length divided by the original length, ε = ΔL / L₀. It has no units and is often given in microstrain (µε, millionths): a 1.2 m bar stretched by 0.6 mm has a strain of 500 µε.
How much a material narrows as it stretches: ν = −lateral strain ÷ axial strain. It's about 0.3 for steel and close to 0.5 for rubber.
Positive when the material lengthens (tension) and negative when it shortens (compression).
