Information cameras and phones store inside photos: the device model, settings, date and time, and often the GPS coordinates where the photo was taken. Editing apps add their own details too.
Not for JPG and PNG — only the metadata is removed. The exception is a photo stored sideways with a rotation tag: it's re-saved upright at high quality so it doesn't appear rotated. Other formats are re-saved, which removes all metadata.
Many large platforms strip location data from uploads, but files sent by email, messaging apps, cloud links, and forums often keep everything. Cleaning photos yourself is the only way to be sure.
